Hejdå dark and twisty hej bright and shiny!

Förresten, jag är fortfarande ur fas av flygresan hem, men värst var när vi var i Chicago. Då var det hela tiden reklam på radion om att OS 2016 skulle hållas där, två trötta (mycket trötta) vänner konverserade;

See ya'll good hardworking people later!

We are going home today. We think the americans will cry, they are very emotional. This thursday, we went to Obamas headquarters, which was totaly insane. People are really engaged into this whole thing. Rita bought me a Obama shirt. Later, they had a surprise for us - a BATCRUISE.

When the sun was setting, we took a boat out on the lake in Austin to see millions billions of bats flying out from under a bridge. It was wonderful to see that. Lisa and I sat in the boat and looked at the beautiful skyline of Austin when we saw something in the water coming towards us... I thought it was a crocodile, but nono. It was turtles!! I have never seen them in real life except in the zoo.

Later we went to have dinner at Threadgils, where Janis Joplin had started her carrier. That was a very nice place with nice atmosphere.

We did a lot yesterday. Had lunch at the Capitol, went to see The texas story on IMAX (which was just a little bit patriotic for my taste...) We went to texas museum and Lyndon BJ museum before we went to cheescake factory to have dinner, and cheescake of course. (And mum, I had the chocolate oreo mudlide cheescake!) Then we went to see the movie W.

Now it's time for breakfast and packing before we leave... It's been a wonderful time, I will miss my quality-time with Lisa at bedtime!

HOWDY YA'LL!

This is where we have lived for two weeks! Jorwoods in Cherry creek

Austin from the cruise

Threadgills had good food!

Lisa is driving!

Texasstyle: Texaslonghorn, Obama and Peace! (And the biggest owen ever)

San Marcos, downtown and lasagna al dente

Without a map. Without a GSP. Without a compass. Without Roger telling us the way. We made it. All by ourselves.

What I am trying to say is that we drove to San Marcos this monday, we did not get lost.  We found the way and everything was perfectly fine! Lisa is a bit aggressive on the gas though. The tires are screaming everytime she is pushing it. And she has no patience by the stopsignals what so ever: "okej ITS GREEN NOW!!! What are you waiting for?! You don't even have any gears, push the GAS!!! DRIVE!"

Anyway, we went the the biggest outlet mall I have ever seen, and we spent the whole day running around there. We wanted to buy something for Rita and Roger, so we got Rita som jewellery from her favourite store Chicos. And we wanted to buy a shirt for Roger, so we went to Lacoste. We had some trouble deciding which size he was, so I made a call to Rita and asked if the was a Large. She said "Oh no honey, he is an XL, at least". Later we went to see a movie, Body of lies. I bet it is a good movie, if you understand it...

Yesterday, Lisa and I drove downtown and we almost crashed the car! Or we didn't, but another car were very close to hit us. We went to my favourite store, Anthropoligie, had mexican lunch at whole foods. We drove to Guadaloupe to do some shopping and take a walk around the campus. The sun was shining and it was raining. MISSION OF YESTERDAY: FIND THE WAY TO MOMA, museum of modern art.  We drove down on Lamar, we drove down on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th street. We have been on all the streets up to 26th. Now to the fun part: I knew where it was. I knew it all the time. But Lisa said "I don't trust you, because you have no idea of where we are anyway". And guess who was right - I was!

We went to Jo's at congresse for some chocolate-chip-cookies, and a man in his 50s asked me "can I buy you a margarita?" I said big nono. When we got home, Lisa and I wnt to the grocery store, and this man walked out on street, towards the car! He did not turn or anything, Lisa had to stop the car. He looked very suicidal. We cooked very al dente lasagna to the americans, it was aldente because people obviously don't cook in this country, and we could not find any cheese sauce. We played yahtzee for two hours, and Lisa won.

We better have some breakfast now, we are having lunch in cityhall today, and later we are going to Barton Creek mall.

See you soon, my friends. Hardworking good friend. That means that you are good friends, working hard.

Esther's follies and San Antonio

We celebrated the weekend with frappuccino and going to the movies, we saw the duchess and I got a little emotional, so Roger gave me a tissue to dry my tears...

Yesterday, we had mexican food at congress blvd, and then we visited a comedyclub downtown on 6th street, Esther's follies. We had so much fun and I was laughing so hard I cried. Of course they made fun of all politicians, and the political jokes were the best ones. They had a man who looked exactly like George W Bush, and he had the funnies monolouge ever, he started it like this: I trust people. I know people. I am a people. I need people. People that need people. My fellow citizens. And my female ctizens. I wanna thank you people for coming here tonight, you're good people. Working hard. You're good, hardworking people. That means you're hardworking people doing good. I work hard. I play hard, I wake up hard! And some people say I don't have a mandate. I don't want a man-date, Im not that kind of guy. Then Barack Obama was moonwalking into the stage to battle with a hillbilly dressed John McCain who was dancing into the stage. They also had a magician who was amazing. We had a really good time yesterday!

Today we went to San Antonio, we visited Market Square, the Alamo and the Riverwalk. San Antonio was just like Mexico in miniature. The Riverwalk was beautiful! A man said to me and Lisa "come into my store, i have got some nice dressed that will make you look younger". Excuse me, YOUNGER?? Why would we want that?

We had lunch (yes we eat all the time) on Market Square

I had quesadillas con guacamole

"HOW YOU DOIN?"

A part of the riverwalk

Then we found Haagen dazs... Strawberrycheescake and brownie icecream

Gueros taccobar on congress

This is me, having lunch in Alamo garden!

We really need some sleep, because we're going to San Marcos early tomorrow. Hope everything is fine at home, we're back in a week!

As we say in TX, peace love and Barack Obama

"I already know you. And I have seen you on TV"

I have to start with telling you this: yesterday, we did NOT get lost! I have my own theory of why. We printed a map to Barton Creek square, and the map was showing the wrong directions, which we noticed, then all of a sudden - we reached Barton Creek square. So the conclusion is, when we have a correct map, we will get lost, and when we have an incorrect map, we will find the way!

We have visited every class at Barton Hills, except for the 5th and 6th grade. It is such a difference between this school and the schools at home. We asked if the teachers thought 30 minutes of recess a day were enough (schoolday for all grades are from 7.45-14.40 with 30 minutes recess), and they said no. They also said that the kids are not really supposed to have any recess at all, but the teacher found it necessary to have 30 minutes. (Don't say...) We feel so bad for the children, they can't concentrate for so many hours without breaks.

We have spent this afternoon in the kindergarten, which was wonderful! They had the most creative teacher, she had so much energy. The kids were sweet and polite, I really admire them for their hard work. They are only five, and they HAVE to learn to read in kindergarten. We asked the teacher, what happens if they don't learn to read, and she just looked at us and said "they have to. They just have to learn to read, I am against it but no one asked for my opinion".

The sweetest boy with curly hair came up to me and said, "I have seen you. I already know you." And later I helped some kids to make halloween paintings while I listened to this sweet conversation between him and Lisa.
The boy with curly hair: I know you. I have seen you on TV
Lisa: Oh really... which channel?
The boy with curl hair: I don't remember, but I have seen you on TV many times.

Lisa Berggren is now very proud of beeing a celebrity. When I remind her of the fact that she has not been on TV, she is just ignoring me..

We had dinner at Nordstroms yesterday, strawberries and fries was a strange combination

Lisa is ordering big portions, and everyone says "hope you're hungry miss". Well, she is hungry allright...

Outside the school

To get some peace and quiet, we are eating lunch outside...

This is one of Americas biggest issues - too much to eat

And this is probably another... Interesting to visit though

I will write tomorrow, tomorrow is friday, which means vacation until next saturday when we are going home!

Take care!

Well, maps are just not made for us!

This is what we are going through every morning at Barton Hills: the kids are gathering in the classroom or cafeteria, when it's quiet,  every kid put their right hand onto their heart, and they all read the American and Texas pledge together. The kids had PE today, and Lisa and I were so surprised of the fact that they didn't change clothes, they didn't take a shower, the school didn't even seem to have a locker room. Everything is so different from home, the kids can't believe that we don't get grades until 8th grade in Sweden.

Lisa and I are developing some kind of habit here. We are lost all the time, even when we think that we know where we are. It's fun though. We always laugh for hours in the car on our way home from school. (Partly because we're exhausted..) Yesterday we were going to Barton Creek mall, and I had the great honour to print a map. Mission completed and I was very proud of myself, we had a great detailed map to the mall! Except that I forgot to write Barton Creek mall. So we ended somewhere else, far far far away. We tried to use the map to get back home, but maps just don't work for us - no no. We always find our way home anyway. We get lost everyday, but we think of it like sightseeing.

We went to Whole foods downtown on 6th street to have dinner this evening, whole foods has got the best guacamole ever. We listened to live music, and went to an enormous book shop.

Lisa is craving for some frappuccino in Washington DC!

...and so am I

We met these gentlemen

We went to a cinema in Austin to see this western movie

... And this is why americans are gaining weight. Rita's supersize popcorn with extra butter (notice the FREE REFILL)

Olof, thank you so much Mr Berggren for you comments, and in case you haven't noticed, your sister Lisa and I are writing in english because it's a part of the school course!

Now I'm watching a debate between Obama and McCain, everyone here is voting for Mr Obama.
Hope everything is wonderful in Sweden (the northwest part of Texas...)

/ Alexandra

School in the Lone star state

Lisa and I have been exploring the neighbourhood around Jorwoods this night. We walked for 40 minutes, and didn't meet anyone. Except for two teenagers who were acting drunk. So obviously, people don't walk here. (That's a pitty, because they really need to...)  And the pavements were all covered by grass because no one is using them.

After the first day at school, we were exhausted. It was really noisy and the children were talking to eachother all the time, not like we are used to at all. But it worked for them, they did what they were supposed to do while they were talking. We didn't hear the teacher yell at someone for all day, not even once. This school, Barton Hills Elementry has got the nicest staff, except for the principal, which we found very strange. She was polite and kind to everyone but us, she said Hello and nothing more. We stayed in a third grade today, with a sweet teacher called Ms J. Ms J had a teacher student who held a mathlesson which we were observing. They were doing subtraction, and I don't think that she was really paying attention because she didn't notice when the pupils got the wrong answers. They had to correct her. Very strange indeed.
Ms J said that the kids will talk about the history of Texas in the fourth grade, and I asked her if they teach any other history than the american one, and they didn't. She said that if I would ask anyone to point out Asia on the map, they could not do it. They have no idea of how the worldmap is looking, they don't know that there's a world outside the states. And at home, Roger said "Well, if y'all ask american kids where Sweden is, they would probably answer; in which part of texas is Sweden?" And I agree. They probably would.

Bedtime! Hope we get a good nights sleep, we need it. To survive another day at Barton Hills...

See you later aligator!

Every minute is an adventure...

I can't believe how much there is to do here, or I can't believe how little there's to do at home...

Let me tell you about yesterday, which was very busy. When we arrived, I asked Roger what animals they had here in Texas, so yesterday he decided to show me. We went to a huge building to see animals. Dead animals, stuffed up. All kinds of animals, and hunters clothing, they had everyting for hunters. Very texas style. Then, the most shocking part was when we went to the GUN LIBRARY. You could basically just go in there and buy a gun. Just like that. And they were not cheap, I can tell you that much. A man who worked there wanted me and Lisa to hold a shotgun worth 65.000 DOLLARS. I felt quite uncomfortable.

When we had seen enough of weapons, Lisa and I went to Nordstroms and another mall, by ourselves. Which means that we drove in Texas. (Well I didn't, because I figured Roger would want his car back in one piece...) We were focusing too hard on the Loop 1 exit and a Target store, so ofcourse we got lost. We thought "what would Roger have done...", and then we found our way back to the Cherry creek area. We saw a movie called Choke. I don't recomend it at all.

This morning, Rita woke us up and it was time to go to church. And we got there, alright.... Jesus Christ Almighty. When we got out from church, Lisa and I looked at eachother, said "Well, no comments. Let's just NOT talk about this" and we haven't said a word about this very special morning yet...

Later, we went downtown to a place called jo's, listened to some live jazz and cowboy music. We saw a western movie called Appaloosa, it took place in new mexico, not very far from here. Rita showed me pictures of her uncel who was a cowboy. It's so interesting!

We are really enjoying our stay in the live music capital of the world! Have a good nigth, and remember, love is a gift from up above!

Yesterday: Washington DC, Mexican food and Chocolate eruption!

Yesterday was a long long long day. Three differents flights that took forever. But I felt better after some gintonic, and the sex and the city movie (which we watched THREE times...) When we landed, an american was screaming about transfer to the next flight, and I was all excited because he was so american. We love the states. We had to wait for a very long time to get through the pass control, and there was a japaneese lady who really was in a hurry. I don't think that she had heard of this new thing, I think it's called standing in line, waiting for your turn?

Anyway, in Washington we found a starbucks and then everyting was fine. When we landed in Austin, we where all alone on the airport, felt wierd. Rita and Roger picked us up, and we went to a mexican restaurand to have some delicious food! We saw Peter Forsberg yesterday btw. I will write more later, we're going to Austin downtown now!

It's really HOT in Austin. We have already seen one cowboy and a hillbilly!
